Altar cloth and storage cabinets – day 12

I had a snow day yesterday, so I got started on the storage cabinet. Before I assemble the box, I want to install the shelf standards and polyurethane the inside of the cabinet. If I do this before assembly, I won’t have to disassemble everything later when I need to finish the outside.

I need a 5/8″ dado to install the shelf standards. I used a 1/2″ router bit, set in my router table to cut the grooves in the side panels. I moved the fence back 1/8″ and ran the boards through a second time to achieve the full 5/8″. While the bit was in the router table, I also routed the center support for the front face of the cabinet.

I clamped two straight boards to the back panel, leaving only enough room for the base of my router, plus 1/8″, so I could route the back panel with my router.

I applied a coat of polyurethane to all of the inside surfaces of the cabinet, then left everything to dry for 12 hours.

Since I had a two-hour delay at work today, I had time to apply a second coat. Hopefully that will give me time this evening to start assembling the cabinet.
