Today I had some time, so I went through my collection of old cans of stain. I selected Minwax Golden Pecan. I was kind of surprised to note the date on the top. It was 1997. I looked at the rest of my collection of eight or nine cans and found three dated 1992. I was also surprised to note that they were still liquid and usable. Can you tell that I don’t like using stain? I personally prefer the natural look of all woods, but I was trying to match the furniture in my son’s dorm, so Golden Pecan it is.
I used a foam brush to apply the stain in between the ventilation slats, then rubbed the rest on with a rag.
Once everything was stained, I let it dry. I did not want to apply polyurethane to the vent section with a brush. It would be a mess. I ran to the local hardware store and picked up an overpriced spray can of poly.
Following the directions, I sprayed several light coats. I think it turned out pretty good. I should get to install it this weekend, either when we pick up my son from school, or when we return him… I will try to remember to bring the camera and get a picture.
